Rebuilding simulacris.com as a toy box
The old site was a memory store for agents. The new one is a place for my own things: posts, weekend apps, a camera roll that deserves better than a phone, and a shelf of objects from trips.
Every app gets a door on the same street. Some doors are public; a few need a key. This is the first post in a short series about how it's put together.
Why a toy box
Because "portfolio" implies finished. These aren't. They're things I play with, and the site should say so.
The landing page is a grid of slabs, one word each. Each slab is exactly as wide as its word — the words set the grid, not the other way round. It took an embarrassing amount of arithmetic to make five words the same size.
What's next
Tito and Ellie come first, because they already exist and already run every day on a machine under my desk. Then the gallery, once I've scanned the summer's rolls.
